Ghost Ship - Guildhall Masters Project (WIP)

Project Highlights:

- Created a self-contained, standalone story-driven level within Doom 3 engine to determine the effects of camera perspective on player investment.
- Wrote custom 3rd-person camera mod to test against standard 1st-person perspective.
- Designed, BSP blocked out, textured, decorated, lit, and placed enemies for 10 minutes of gameplay.
- Wrote several custom scripted sequences within DoomScript designed to maximize player immersion/investment within the space.
- Interviewed playtesters who tested both perspectives on the level, analyzed and organized data, and presented results as a Master's Thesis.

For years, the first-person perspective has been the perspective of choice for developers who wish to create an immersive and engaging experience for their players. This thesis asks the question: does it have to be that way? Within this project, I took the principals utilized in first-person games, and applied them to a third-person experience in order to Determine just how much effect perspective has on a player's immersion and investment.

Ghost Ship is a self-contained story-driven sequence that casts the player as a member of an illegal salvage crew who have just hit the mother lode - a whole abandoned space colony. However, the crew is about to discover that the ship has been abandoned for a reason...
